April Bunny Mini Quilt

My new April Bunny Mini quilt kit arrived on Tuesday. How exciting to get another special block. 

The fabrics are mostly pastels. 

Another month  to "quilt" my fun new12 inch mini-quilt. I put together the background Thursday night...

and today I cut out and ironed the pieces to the backing, then I stitched everything in place. How nice it is to complete this cute bunny. I plan to hang this "April Bunny" on my office door. I plan to put this up on Monday morning.

I will have to make another one or two. I just adore these really cute blocks!

Baby Gifts are always Fun

I had a few orders this week for Baby Gifts...There is just something "SWEET" while stitching burp clothes, bibs, a pacifier clip,and making a special baby wipe case that is yours alone. I would love to sit and sew and play with baby orders for a few days. When someone orders I need just a few things to get the gears in my mind whirling. I need the baby's name (correctly spelled), if you know it, and the mom's favorite colors. Then just like magic you get a basket full of goodies. I end up having to stop myself...

And I HAD to whip up a Bib that pulls it all together.

When completed it all looked great... and I always feel good when gifts are opened and the person who gives them calls and tells me the new mom just loved the gift.

Birds of a Feather

I have really enjoyed my mini-block of the month project. This one is the one I received in the mail, fabric, batting and instructions were all included. It is very pretty and makes me think of spring and all the beautiful Red Birds that I see in my area. They are already hard at work on their nest's in my yard.

This is my spin on the block. Spring is sooo close and this one is little different. I have a wonderful stash of bright fabrics and this one is lovely.

This is the one I plan to put on my office door. Which one do you like? What color would your bird be? What bird would you like to see?

Look what I got...

I joined a new block of the month in January and I have been patiently (OK, so not so patiently) waiting for the first one to get here. When I got home from work while opening the mail, I noticed a priority mail envelope opened (gasp), in my mailbox. It looked like the glue did not hold. But I have gotten side tracked. Panicked I checked my package and yeah!!! it was from Kudzu Blossom Quilt Shop in Montgomery AL, my packaged had made it...

What a cute little package, but when I opened it it was full of these wonderful goodies!

I love it. Absolutely everything you need to make this fusible block of the month kit was in the package. The fabric, fusible web, batting and binding, along with the directions.

This block of the month kit is for a 12 X12 mini quilt that looks quick and easy. I think once the sewing machine gets back from the shop, I can put this together in a Jiffy. I hope I can find more kits like this one. What fun these will be for the next year. I am so going to make at least two of every one. Memory T-Shirt Quilt

I have had such a good time working out the details of this particular quilt. I can't wait to see how it looks once I've completed it. A friend brought me a huge bag of T-Shirts and said for me to "make it any way I thought it would look good". I started cutting the quilt after Christmas.

First I had to find a fabric that went with the variety of T-shirt colors. It's important that the fabric compliments the shirts, you don't want the fabric to be the focus when you look at the quilt. In reading up on the best way to prepare shirts, one recommendation was to wash and dry all shirts and lay them out so they do not need to be ironed. This method really worked well because there were so many of them. I actually washed them in 5 loads so they had plenty of room to tumble dry and fluff out. Then I carefully cut all of the shirts to 12 1/2 inch blocks, except for the few shirts that were to big for that. I took the shirt pockets and cut them so that 4 of these squares would make a 12 1/2 inch block. I stitched the pockets closed so that pockets would snag fingers and toes to damage the pocket blocks once they were made.

Because memories are so precious, A good bit of my time working on this quilt was in the cutting of the blocks. There was also a fair amount of time in the layout of the blocks. For me it is important to get the layout just right.

Do you have any idea of the way you can lay out a T-shirt quilt with a lot of blocks. 

Now I have been stitching away at the blocks. 

I am avoiding working on other quilts until this one is complete. I can't wait to see this one through.

Mug Rug Swap

I could not help myself, when I saw this swap I was so excited. The Quilting Gallery listed a Mug Rug Swap and since I always like quick easy quilting projects, I just had to sign up. I have made a test Mug Rug that is being used on my desk at school. I am a school nurse so I enjoy FUN stuff.

This is a huge swap. There are 330 swappers from 25 countries. Wow! What a great way to make new friends. I've already shipped my Mug Rugs out and have received mine.

As you can see, a Mug Rug is a very small quilted mat 10 inches by 6 inches. You can sit your favorite mug and snack on it. I love, love, love these. You make two to send to your partner and you will get two from another partner. I have made 20-25 different mats to share with others. I can see so many cute ideas to use these on. I love Amy Butler and other trendy fabrics and never throw away the small fabric pieces. I plan to make special Mug Rugs with these leftover fabrics.

My sender is from Minnesota and sent these to me. The loon is the Minnesota state bird and the Lady Slipper is the state flower, the backing has sayings or locations all pertaining to the state of Minnesota. How nice to share information with our partner. These are pretty enough to hang on the wall.

Valentines Sock and Candy Swap.

Look what came in my mail box!

I received these really cute socks and I bag of Candy Hearts. I love them. I plan on Wearing the socks on Valentines Day. The candy won't last that long. I love the swap-bot fun I'm having. You know I have always loved getting goodies in the mail. But, I always enjoy finding the right things to ship out too.
